Growing up, I loved the books with options. Do you remember those – the “choose your own adventure” style? Choose this, turn to such and such page. To do this, flip to this page. Using my finger as the bookmark, I flipped ahead to make sure I liked the ending. I devoured those books, morphing the conclusion as I went!
So often, I’ve wished life was a little like those books. Choices were limited, apparent routes were laid out, and direction provided before the page turned. Not to mention, if you didn’t like the ending, you had the chance to rewind and choose another option. Now, who doesn’t want that??
Although the reality of our world varies greatly, we do have the option of choosing our own adventure. And while flipping ahead isn’t an option, as children of the King, we can turn to the King’s infinite knowledge, wisdom, understanding, and direction. If – when – you have a decision to make, allow these Scriptures to reassure and guide you.
-
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask of God who gives generously to all without finding fault and it will be given to you. James 1:5
-
For the Lord gives wisdom and from His mouth come knowledge and understanding. Proverbs 2:6
-
Whether you turn to the left or to the right your ears will hear a voice behind you saying, “This is the way; walk in it.” Isaiah 30:21
-
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go, I will counsel you and watch over you. Psalm 32:8
-
Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, and the one who gets understanding, for the gain from her is better than gain from silver and her profit better than gold. She is more precious than jewels, and nothing you desire can compare with her. Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. Proverbs 3:13-18
-
Make me to know your ways O Lord; teach me your paths. Lead me in your truths and teach me. Psalm 25:4-5
-
Teach me your way, O Lord, and I will walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name. Psalm 86:11
-
Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you, who walk in the light of your presence, O Lord. Psalm 89:15
His word promises that when we ask Him, He will lead, guide, teach, instruct, and counsel us every step of the way. You and I are safer in what we perceive to be the “dangers” of His will than we’ll ever be in playing it “safe” outside of His will. We can flip ahead in the chapter of our lives, not like the outcome and retract, or we can choose to follow His leading, leaving the outcome of our adventure to the Author.
