Infuse Hope: Resting In God / Scripture For Finding Rest While Waiting On the Lord

Rest. A command etched in stone tablets by the finger of God, and a need that remains engraved in the fibers of our DNA.

But if I’m sincere and totally transparent, rest is the last thing I want to do in the middle of a storm. How do you rest when you feel spiritually, emotionally, and physically restless?

And yet the reality remains: if I am continually trying to fix it and choosing to overanalyze it, inadvertently I am trusting in my abilities, overshadowing His. All the while, God’s power to move on my behalf is far beyond my power to force movement and change.

Friends, the One who measured the oceans in His cupped hand, weighed the mountains on a scale, and marked off the heavens by the width of His hand, is the same tender Shepherd who gathers His lambs (you) in the fold of His arms and carries them close to His heart (Isaiah 40:12-14; 31).

When we realize the Immortal I Am opens doors no man can close, we can rest that He is working behind the scenes for our good and His glory. Because His perfect love cast out all fear, we can rest in His love. A rest that allows us to wait patiently for the Mountain Mover to make a way. More times than I’d like to admit, I have frantically sought the breakthrough, desiring to take the quickest exit route available. While I was worrying and aimlessly wandering, God was weaving and working. And I can’t help but wonder how much peace I’ve forfeited. In my attempts to control, I’ve missed His always present comfort.

It’s in the surrendered wait that we find the security of a Shielding Savior. Here, rest renews our strength. These moments of purposeful pause, usher in His presence. This supernatural exchange is where the tender touch of the Father captures the trembling tension of hearts equipping us to declare with certainty, “It is well.”

I pray these verses fall like rain on your parched soul as you rest in the quiet pause, abide in His trustworthy Word, linger in His presence, tarry in His grace, and assume His strength.
