“You promised!”

Her words pierced like a warm knife through butter, gliding straight to the bitter reality that these circumstances were beyond my control.

Life is full of promises. Promises to make us beautiful, youthful, thinner, happier, fulfilled, and more money are just some of the marketing guarantees daily thrust at us. And on a deeper level, others promise greater vows to love forever, never abandon, and be faithful friends.  Sometimes – many times – the broken promises of a broken world taint our view of God’s ability to keep His promises.

Promises are the heart of God’s word.

A word that is more solid than the ground we stand on. A word that does not return void but fulfills everything it was set forth to accomplish. Every. Single. Time.

If His words were powerful enough to create the cosmos (and keep them going) they are powerful enough to rely on. This week, let’s focus on God’s promises, ponder the truth of His Word, and proclaim these realities over our lives.

Key Verse: The Lord is faithful to all His promises and loving toward all He has made. Psalm 145:13

  • Wednesday – God can’t not keep His promises. His righteousness means He always keeps them. With transparency, answer the following question as if God were asking it. “Do you trust Me to keep my promises to you?”
    • You (Lord) have kept your promises because you are righteous. Nehemiah 9:8
  • ThursdayDuring long deserts of waiting, remembering His promises sifts through doubt bringing comfort and hope. Find one verse relating to your situation and ask God to anchor it deep into your heart. He alone can keep you from drifting or sinking.
    • My comfort in my suffering is this: your promise preserves my life. Psalm 119:50
  • Friday – God is the constant (stable, unbroken, permanent) in all equations of life. Today, spend time focusing on God’s faithfulness. Thank Him for His steadfast reliability, sincere love, and permanent presence.
    • Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful. Hebrews 10:28

I pray these verses and prayer prompts remind you of His faithfulness to every promise. He is the Promise Keeper. Be sure to grab the list of “But God” promises to stand on.
