Billy Graham, a leader in faith and prayer, once said, “To get nations back on their feet, we must first get down on our knees.”
Likewise, to get our family and friends back on their feet, we must regularly fall to our knees, lifting them to the throne of Glory. Throughout Jesus’ life, He reminded His followers (and us) that, in this fallen state of the world, we will undoubtedly have trouble, heartache, and loss. As He drew near to His final breath, He asked the Father not to remove us from the world, but to provide a protective barrier around us, shielding us from the enemy’s devouring ways.
This week, we are seeking God’s shield on behalf of those we love most. Will you join me in writing a list each day and committing to pray for them throughout the day? Stick a post-it note in your lunch, on your computer, or set a reminder on your phone. Whatever works best, let us be wholehearted prayer warriors for our people.
Key Verse: In the morning, O Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning, I lay my request before you and wait in expectation.
Psalm 5:3
- Monday – Prayers for the grieving. Grief is a painful familiarity in life. It might be the loss of a loved one, the wreckage of a marriage, or the death of a dream job. Today, we are seeking God’s divine renewal of strength, rejuvenation of joy, and restored hope for the grieving in our lives.
- The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Psalm 34:18
- Tuesday – Prayers for purpose. Purpose gives meaning and direction for our lives. Without purpose, we’re like ships sailing in the open sea without a sail, wheel, compass, or rudder. Write a list of those who need some direction, asking God’s guiding light to awaken their purpose and steer them to their destiny.
- “I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
- Wednesday – Prayers for deliverance. Do you know an addict? Whether it’s a habitual pattern, activity, or substance, deliverance is needed. Fervently pray for God to rescue them from the pit, release them from the bondage, and redeem their story for His glory. Seek the full armor of God as their protection.

For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 2 Corinthians 10:3-4

- Thursday – Prayers for healing. Jesus, who displayed His power over sickness and death, is the same water-walking, mountain-moving, storm-silencing Savior as we read about on the pages of Scripture. Today, we are petitioning the throne of grace on behalf of those who need His healing hand. Our prayers, offered in faith, have healing power.
- “Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven.” James 5:14-15
- Friday – Prayers for lost. The most important decision a person will ever make is the choice to receive God’s gift of salvation. Though the road is narrow, it is not God’s desire for anyone to perish. Ask God to remove any barriers of hinderance, open their eyes, soften their hearts, and show them their need for Him.
- The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. 2 Peter 3:9
