A state of calm. Freedom from strife. Harmony.
Throughout Scripture, God granted peace upon the land of His people, harmony among neighboring kingdoms and powers. And yet, within the heart of every human is a war. A war that desperately desires peace upon the land of our souls.
But how do we achieve peace in an anxious world? By seeking the Prince of Peace, connecting with the Vine, allowing Him to guard our hearts and minds, and living out peace in our relationships. This week’s scripture writing plan is on the peace and harmony found only in Christ.
Key Verse: Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27
Peace is to be sought
Throughout life, we seek many things: education, spouse, hobbies, children, etc. Seldom, however, do we seek – look for, follow, pursue – peace. Do you feel the need for peace? Spend time thinking about where you need peace. Seeking peace will always lead us to the Peacemaker.
Peace is a Person
More than 2000 years ago, peace came to the earth in the form of a baby. He came to bring peace, not upon the earth, but within the heart of every person who turns to Him. As sands shift on a beach, circumstances shift in our lives. He remains the constant, never-changing, always present Prince of Peace. Do you find yourself looking for peaceful situations or the peace-filled Savior? Peace is a Person, and the more we get to know that Person, the more we experience His peace.
Peace is a fruit of someone connected to the Vine
Peace is the fruit of a heart nourished by the Vine. Where there is a severed connection, there will be struggling fruit(s). After extended periods of disconnection, it begins to wither and die. If peace is not present in your life, seek God’s guidance on where there is a disconnection from the Vine, allowing Him to prune those branches.
Peace will guard your heart and mind
Living in a world full of swirling anxiety, yet not becoming like the world, requires constant attention and prayer. As we pray, our thoughts, attitudes, and emotions are shifted from inward to upward. But if we’re not resting in His presence, we can’t walk in His peace. Today, spend time laying your request at His feet, thanking Him, and resting in His presence. Prayer + thanksgiving = trust + peace
Peace with all people
You are God’s love letter to the broken world. Peace is meant to be lived out in daily interactions with family, friends, and strangers. As children of God, we are called to be peacemakers (Matthew 5:9). As we sow peace, we reap a harvest of righteousness. Do you make every effort to live at peace with those God has placed in your life? Spend time in reflection and, if needed, repentance.
As God’s children, we were called to bring heavenly peace to earthly chaos. So grab a journal and a pen, and spend some quiet time seeking His peace with this scripture writing plan.
