Dwelling. A settling place we reside to find rest from the world and tarry with family. For one reason or another, we can find ourselves viewing dwelling in the presence of the Lord as more of a hotel approach – just passing through – rather than a resting place where we occupy and abide to find shelter, rest, and security. As Christ became flesh and made His dwelling among us, this week we are focusing on putting aside our flesh to find dwelling with Him.
Key Verse: The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. John 1:14
- Monday – David, a man after God’s own heart, spent substantial time tending flock in the field and running for his life. Though he moved from “hotel to hotel” David found his “home” in God’s presence. Assess your time with God. Is it more of a “passing through, only when needed” or “home sweet home, no other place I’d rather be?”
- One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple. Psalm 27:4
- Tuesday – Promise upon promise are found in Scripture relating to those who seek and dwell in His presence. Obedience, understanding, security, success, faith, rest, wisdom, provision, and answered prayers are just a few. Of these listed, which do you currently need most? Spend some time searching for and meditating upon a verse related to your need.
- If you abide in me and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. John 15:7
- Wednesday – So often, we pitch a tent in the valley of former things. But we can’t move forward if we’re stranded in the past. To move on with God, we must process the past and pack up heading for the future. Is there an area you’ve struggled to turn your back on, leaving it behind? What one thing can you do to pack up your tent and move on toward the future God has planned for you?
- “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.” Isaiah 43:18
- Thursday – To rest in the shadow of the Almighty, one must be close to the Source of light. Like any shadow, the further away we move from our Source, the smaller this “shadow of rest” becomes. If you find yourself restless and weary, take one step towards His dwelling place.
- Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. Psalm 91:1
- Friday – Time spent with Him is never wasted. When we choose to live daily in His presence, we are conformed to His image, empowered to live as He lived, and propelled to love as He loves – not with perfection, but with passion and progression. Do you have a passion to live for Him? If not, can you pinpoint why?
- The one who says he lives in Him ought to walk in the same manner as He walked. 1 John 2:6
