So much of our energy is spent and depleted trying to fight battles we weren’t intended to fight. From inner wars that savagely plunder our thoughts, health, and mental wellbeing to struggles with spouses, children, work, finances, and more, we are at a constant state of “armed” conflict.
But are we armed with the right armor? Are we facing the right direction in the battle? I would propose that even the most steadfast Christian succumbs, on occasion, to the call to walk outside the victory shield of God and attempt to win the war in his or her own strength.
In 2 Chronicles 20, the people of Judah, alarmed at the vast army barreling down on them, set their eyes on the only One mighty enough to save them – God. And in return, God reemphasized that He would fight their battle. But they were still required to do something – go out and face them, take up their position, stand firm, and see the deliverance of the Lord.
Likewise, this week, we are going to go out and face our battlefield, take up our position as children of God, stand firm in His victory, and watch as His deliverance takes centerstage.
Key Verse: This is what the Lord says to you: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s. 2 Chronicles 20:15
- Monday – Through Christ, God gave us victory; He is our shield. But like any shield, it cannot protect us if we refuse to lift it. Have you stepped out of the protection of His victory shield in any area of life?
- You give me your shield of victory, and your right hand sustains me; you stoop down to make me great. Psalm 18:35
- Tuesday – Victory is found in one name – God. When we trust in other things like our strength or others for victory, we will end up on our knees. So why not start there? Start on your knees in prayer, asking God to raise you up and make you stand firm. He is your victory shield.
- Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. They are brought to their knees and fall, but we rise up and stand firm. Psalm 20:7-8
- Wednesday – So much of our victory is in the faith we use to activate it. Whatever you face, the Lord is by your side, providing the strength you need to continue victoriously. What lying lion’s lips do you need shut? Where is the enemy trying to devour your victory?
- But the Lord stood by my side and gave me strength…and I was delivered from the lion’s mouth. 2 Timothy 4:17
- Thursday – As David approached the giant in his life, he remembered God’s previous faithfulness to deliver him. Where do you need to remind your battle that the Lord has already delivered you and will surely do it again? Replace the lion and bear with His previous faithfulness in your life and the Philistine with the battle you’re currently facing.
- The Lord, who delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will surely deliver me from this Philistine. 1 Samuel 17:37
- Friday – In every battle we face, God will require some level of engagement. Whether it’s to go out and face the enemy, be still on your knees, or wait (longer) on the Lord, we must keep our eyes on our Defender to know our directives. Spend some time in prayer seeking to know how to face your battle, what position you need to take, and where you need to stand firm.
- ‘You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your position; stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give you, O Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the Lord will be with you.’ 2 Chronicles 20:17
Whatever you face, the Lord your God is with you. Whatever is standing in your way, He is mighty to save (Zephania 3:17). Grab your free printable, and let’s stand on the victory of our Savior!
