My 16-year-old feet dangled from the hospital bed. After five days, we were free to go home. I watched the tiny features nestled in a pink blanket resting only a few feet away, unaware of the life set before her.

For the first time, reality set in – I was a mom. A young, single mom without a job, an education, or hope of a future.

“How am I going to do this on my own,” I whispered as tears blurred my vision.

With only a few days until Christmas, I can’t help but recall another baby born to a teenage mom. A sleeping baby in a manger who would change the world. Our Righteous King, who laid down His crown for a cradle, came with unparalleled love to be the strength for the weary, hope for the hurting, and an anchor for the lost. Heaven reached down to ensure you and I would never face life on our own.

If this season of joyful melodies finds you feeling lonely, deserted, or forgotten, let the truth of these verses wash over you as sweet whispers of grace flow from the Father’s heart to yours.

  • I have made you. I will carry you. I will sustain you. I will rescue you. Isaiah 46:4

As I think back on that day and the statement so vividly etched in my memory, I also look back on a faithful Father who never left my side. Through each struggle and trial, I see His hand weaving a bigger story, a reminder that I was never on my own.
